A minimalist set of solo-journalling RPG tables for wandering aimlessly in the wet and windy outdoors.

Each day, draw two cards from a standard deck. They will tell you the weather and what you discover in the location. Reflections for each type of location suggest questions to flesh out what you might find there. Add the location to your map, record your exploits in your journal and then consider your next move.

Now with extra Threap! The supplement for Threap adds additional tables to generate settlements and people you might meet. Additional procedures for the drifting loss of relationships the forlorn wanderer experiences round out this eight-page booklet.

25/08/23 Day cycle generator!

I've been using Perchance to build some generators. The one below models the weather / location generation with two main differences:

  • It simulates a deck of cards by choosing a random value 1-52, it doesn't have a reducing deck of cards (I haven't figured out if I can make Perchance model a deck of cards in that way). If you want to get closer to a deck of cards, note the card drawn each time and ignore duplicates
  • It will tell you if the weather gets hotter/colder and wetter/dryer. You will need to adjust the weather tracks for this. It also tells you whether the card was red or black for part-day weather effects
